Jashchar is a school management platform run by Jashchar Private Limited: the website jashchar.com and the Jashchar app, which shows the same website on a phone. This policy explains what personal data the platform handles, why, who can see it, how long it is kept, and how you can have your account deleted.
Schools use Jashchar to run their work. For the records a school keeps about its students, parents and staff, the school decides what is recorded and why; Jashchar stores and processes that data for the school. Questions about those records are best asked to the school first.
1. Data we handle
- Account and sign-in: name, mobile number, e-mail (if given), role (for example parent, teacher, school admin), password (stored only as a one-way hash), one-time codes sent by WhatsApp or SMS, and a record of sign-ins (time, IP address, browser or app).
- School records entered by the school: student and parent details, admission records, class and timetable, attendance, homework, exams and marks, fees and receipts, certificates, documents and photos, staff and payroll records, transport, hostel and library records, notices and messages.
- Payments: when you pay a fee online, the payment is handled by the payment provider the school uses (such as Razorpay). We keep the payment result and receipt; we never see or store card numbers or UPI PINs.
- Camera and photos: used only when you choose to take or upload a photo or document, or use face attendance.
- JASH, the assistant (only when you use it): what you type to JASH, and the school records it needs for the answer (only what your role may see), are sent to Anthropic's Claude, which writes the answer. Anthropic handles them for us only to answer; under its terms they are not used to train its models. If you speak to JASH, the phone's own browser turns your voice into text; if JASH reads an answer aloud, the answer's text is sent to Sarvam AI to make the voice. Your conversations with JASH are kept so you can read them again. Every answer has a Report button for a wrong or offensive answer.
- Microphone: used only when you choose to record a voice note (on a task, or a voice message in Chats); the recording is kept with the task or the chat and heard by the people who may open it.
- Chats: the messages, photos, videos, files and voice messages you send in Jashchar's Chats are kept and seen by the people in that chat, as the school's chat rules allow. Only when someone asks for it, a message is translated by Anthropic's Claude, or a voice message is written out as words by Sarvam AI. Anyone can report a message or a person, and block a person in a one-to-one chat; a report, with the reported message and the few messages around it, is seen by the school's admins, who decide what to do (remove the message, or stop someone writing in Chats).
- Live classes (only if the school uses them): the video call runs on the video service the school chooses (such as meet.jit.si or 8x8 JaaS); Jashchar keeps who attended, not the video.
- AI paper evaluation (only if the school uses it): photos of answer booklets are sent to Anthropic's Claude to read the answers and suggest marks; the teacher decides every mark.
- Face, finger or card readers (only if the school uses them): for attendance at the school gate or a bus door, a numeric face or finger template is made from the person's photo or finger. It is used only to mark attendance, and the school can remove it at any time.
- Bus location: only the driver's page sends the bus's location, and only while the driver runs a trip with the page open, so parents and the school can see where the bus is and when it will reach the stop. Nobody else's location is collected.
- Home addresses on a map (only if the school plans bus routes): to place homes and stops on a map, the address text (not the name) is looked up on OpenStreetMap.
- Error reports: when a page of the website or app fails (a script error), the page's address and the error are sent to us with your account, so we can fix it. What you typed is not part of it.
- Phone notifications: if you turn them on, a notification token for your phone (from Google Firebase), so the school's notices reach you.
2. How we use it
- To run the school's work in Jashchar and show each person what their role allows.
- To sign you in safely (passwords, one-time codes, blocking repeated wrong attempts).
- To send notices, reminders and receipts from your school.
- To give support, keep the service working, and find and fix problems.
We do not sell personal data, show advertising, or use data for advertising or profiling.
3. Who can see it
- Your school, according to each staff member's role. Parents see their own children; students see their own records.
- Service providers that run parts of the service for us, only for that purpose: our server host (in India), our backup storage (Google Drive), the SMS, WhatsApp and e-mail providers that deliver codes and notices, Google Firebase for phone notifications, OpenStreetMap for addresses on the bus map, Anthropic (Claude) for JASH's answers, a chat message translated and answer booklets read, Sarvam AI to read JASH's answers aloud and to write out a voice message, the video service of live classes, and the school's payment provider.
- Authorities, only when the law requires it.
4. Children
Students' accounts are created by their school, not by the children themselves. The school is responsible for having the consent it needs from parents for the records it keeps. Jashchar does not show advertising to anyone and collects nothing from students beyond what their school uses.
5. Security
All traffic uses HTTPS. Passwords are stored only as hashes. Access inside a school is limited by role, and sign-in attempts are limited and logged. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects you we will tell your school and, where the law requires, the authorities.
6. How long we keep it
- Account and school data: as long as the school uses Jashchar, or until it is deleted.
- When a school leaves Jashchar, its data is kept 90 days (to download it or to come back), then deleted.
- When you ask for your account to be deleted, we delete it within 30 days (section 7).
- Copies in backups disappear when those backups expire.
7. Deleting your account, and your other rights
You can ask for your account to be deleted at any time: open https://jashchar.com/account/delete, or in the website or app open your name (top right) and choose Delete Account. We delete your sign-in (mobile number login, password, app sign-ins) and your account profile within 30 days. Records your school must keep by law or for its own records (for example admission records, fee receipts, marks) stay with the school; ask the school to remove those.
You can also ask your school to show you, correct or remove your data.
8. Changes
If this policy changes, the new version is published on this page with a new date.
